What have you learned this quarter?

What I have learned this quarter from TIE 300 is how technology can be used in the classroom. I learned how children can learn from technology and how technology is growing everyday in the classroom. I also learned how teachers should know and understand how to use appropriate sites and teach students what is appropriate and what isn't. It is also a good idea for teachers to know and educate themselves on the newest features of technology so they are up to date on what is being used recently.
I also learned about TPACK and how to use it, something that I didn't even know or understand. I also learned how to use Moviemaker. Moviemaker was cool to do and I hope to be able to make a video at the end of this school year for my students, to show how much they have grown and learned over the 3 years with their teachers. I also learned how to add my voice into moviemaker which was new to me.
This quarter I also learned how to make a Blogger and learned how Google is so much more then a search site. I learned how having a Google gmail let me access things like powerpoints, word document, blogger, create my own site, map, and so much more. Children in the classroom are already learning how to use this and I am glad that I finally learned how to use it myself.
This class has taught me how important it is to be able to know, learn, and use technology in the classroom. I have taken many things in this class and started to implement it in my everyday life.

How does copyright law affect your use of technology in the classroom?

This week in class we learned about copyright law and how it affects the use of technology in the classroom. Copyright law is a big deal! Educator and students should know and understand copyright law so they will not get in trouble for when using materials that others have done. There are many ways to help element and manage copyright and giving credit to those who deserve it. Some of those are asking the original publisher if you could use their material and let them know if you use it you will give them the credit they deserve. Check out this sample:

Sample Copyright Permission Request Template
Dear [Name],
I am a student/staff at [name of school]. I would like to use [specific description of the material] in the following manner [specific description of how the material will be used]. Do you hold the copyright on this material? If you hold the copyright, may I have your permission to use your material in this way? If you grant permission to copy this material, I will properly reference your ownership by [describe how ownership will be referenced]. It need to have your answer by [date].
Sincerely,
[Name]

This will help eliminate and further wrong doing and will help from getting sued. Helping students to understand that their own work has rights and are valued is important too. This let's student recognize that what they do they take ownership and everyone should respect their work. Students will learn that although they should be recognize for their work they would not want someone to copy their work as their own will help them to see that it is not okay to copy people work and not give them credit for it.

What is media literacy and why is it important?

This week we read and learned about media literacy. What is media literacy? It is the ability to both read and write visual information, the ablity to learn visually to think and solve problems in the visual domain(http://www.iste.org/docs/excerpts/MEDLIT-excerpt.pdf). The reading that we were given this week gave examples of reading pictures. Through the pictures one might see something and have a totally different perspective of what the picture is really about. Children of the future are already expose to technology. Teachers can help students learn how to use media literacy in a smart, safe, and healthy environment. Teachers can help students by guiding them how to learn visually and thing and solve problems.
With the ever growing world of technology it is important that teachers prepare themselves for the changes. It is important to grow as technology also grows and being aware and understanding of how all people learn differently. So I conclude that media literacy is important because with so many children now a days learning from the screen, it is important to help them visually see more than one side.

Review of a Web 2.0 Tool (Affordances/Constraints/Examples)

What the heck is Web 2.0 Tool?
This week we learned about Web 2.0 Tool. Have you ever wonder with this ever growing of technology what kind of tools you could use to help students and teacher with learning? Let's face the facts students are learning through screen, and teachers have to know figure out which what to use and how they can use it to be successful in the classroom.
The Family Economics & Financial Education (FEFE) helps address the problem of teachers looking for tools and guides them to help address the challenge by providing educator-tested, technology integration resources applicable to any career and technical education classroom https://d2l.nl.edu/d2l/le/content/59703/viewContent/1874181/View.
I believe this is a big help to teachers because as a lot of teachers know there is little time and very little resource in the general population of the teaching world. Having web tool will help save time and give you more time with helping students.
An example of affordances web 2.0 is:

Bower et al, 2010, p193.

An example of constraints web 2.0 is:

Blog #4-How would you use the concept of flipped classrooms in your teaching?

This week we learned how the concept of flipped classrooms in teaching could actually be a good thing. I don't know what a whole lot about a flipped classroom but I surfed the web for some form of answer. From my understand a flip classroom is a classroom that is half lecture half technology. How cool is that?!
No more sitting around waiting days to find answers, when you could look it up on the web. With this new way of schooling this teaching approach could really help students. Students will be able to learn at a their own speed, work on their own, work among their peer, and parents can also follow along and see what their child is doing.
Who knows they may even want to go to school and learn! Teachers also benefit from flipped classroom. Teachers are able to facilitate students learning, be able to team students up together, monitor students learning, teachers are also able to use education and instructed video to their student's.

What are some important best practices for technology in education?

This week we learned about some of the important best practices for technology in education.
Why use technology in the classroom and why is it important to use the best practices?
Technology is growing everyday and people around the world is using this to help advance their education. It is best to use best practice because it will help, "make sense of the information and to aid identification of their important technological components and their potential effectiveness within education both now and in the future" (White Paper Contact: Charles Fadel cfadel@Cisco.com Prepared by FutureLab, Best Practices in Education Technology).
Finding and doing case studies will help grow and understand what works and what doesn't work. By conducting case studies they were to summarize some of the trends for best practices for technology in education. There are five trends that they are able to conclude and are as followed:

• New structures and funding model
• The relationships among teachers, pupils, and parents
• The relationships among education, technology, and innovation
• More sophisticated blended approaches to learning
• More sophisticated forms of assessment and evaluation

After reading the article, "Best Practices in Education Technology" I have also come to learn  culture, relationships, and approach plays a big role. I find this very interesting because if you think about it these three things normally play a big role in everything we do.
My children are growing up against technology in the classroom. To me they are very tech savvy and I love the fact that they can tech me things that I don't know or understand.

TPACK

This is my second post for my blog. This week we talked about TPACK. So you ask, "What is TPACK?". TPACK stands for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. Shulman’s idea of Pedagogical Content Knowledge help shape the idea of TPACK. Let's face it, in this ever growing world, technology changes everyday. I believe technology is a great tool to use in the classroom. I don't have a smart board or a computer for the children in my classroom. I have seen smart board used in classroom and I think it is awesome. I seen children reading stories from the smart board, having a dance party, and finding answers to their question. I like the idea that teachers could use technology to better help students with their learning and also help with advancing their daily lesson plans. Heck I learn something new through technology almost everyday! I believe that TPACK will keep on advancing and more teachers will be using this idea.

What I hope to get out of TIE 300

This is my very first blog. I have never blogged before and therefore I am nervous of what the out come will be. Will I love it? Will I hate it? These questions run through my brain as I am curious to find out what the outcome will be after 10 weeks of this course. This is my first quarter at NLU and I am working on my B.A. in Early Childhood Education (E.C.E) and hope to go on to get my Master degree in Special Education. I am very nervous about taking this class but hope to learn more about technology use in the classroom.

People are always saying that this is the new world of technology. Technology grows everyday and that is why I hope to learn whatever I can in this class so I can take what I learn and apply it to my everyday life. There is so much to learn and with the everyday growing world it is hard to keep up at times. My biggest concern about technology in the classroom is how to teach it to others. I am afraid of what the out come maybe if I fall back on the world of technology and that is what I am glad that this class is a requirement. This way I will not only help myself in growing, I will help others too. I hope to understand what technology today stands for children of the future. I hope to learn how and what I could provide to help children with this ever growing world. I also hope to understand more about technology and why it is important in today world.
